macOS 27 Golden Gate: What Changes for Business Mac Users

During WWDC 2026, Apple officially announced macOS 27. The new version is named Golden Gate, after the famous bridge in San Francisco. As we have come to expect from Apple, a new macOS version is not just about a fresh look, but above all about working smarter, better performance, and deeper integration of artificial intelligence.

The end of Intel Macs

Perhaps the biggest change is that macOS 27 definitively drops support for Intel Macs. Where macOS Tahoe (2025) was still the last version to support Intel systems, Golden Gate runs exclusively on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3 and newer).

For many businesses this will come as no surprise. Apple has been working on the transition to its own chips since 2020, and the performance, battery life, and reliability of Apple Silicon have since proven themselves convincingly.

Siri finally gets genuinely smart

Apple has paid a lot of attention to the new generation of Siri. Where Siri lagged behind solutions such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot for years, the assistant now gets a substantial upgrade thanks to Apple Intelligence.

Spotlight Search becomes a lot more powerful

Many Mac users open dozens of files, emails, and documents every day. Apple has therefore completely renewed the search functionality.

Visual Intelligence comes to the Mac

Another notable addition is Visual Intelligence. With this, macOS can understand what is happening on your screen.

This strongly resembles functionality we already know from ChatGPT, Copilot, and other AI solutions, but fully integrated into macOS.

Design improvements

Last year Apple introduced the new Liquid Glass design in macOS Tahoe. Not everyone was enthusiastic about it.

Apple has listened carefully to the feedback and is making several improvements in macOS 27. Users can now decide for themselves how much transparency they want to see within the interface. Several familiar design choices are also making a comeback, including colored sidebar icons and a calmer overall look.

The result is a more modern interface that is also more pleasant to use.

What this means for business users

For businesses there are three important takeaways:

Where AI was still something organizations were experimenting with last year, it now becomes a standard part of macOS. Users get AI functionality built directly into their operating system.
