Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event: everything announced today

Apple held its previously announced fall event today, called “Surprise and Shine.” It was the first major keynote led by John Ternus, who took over as CEO from Tim Cook earlier this month. Cook moved into the role of Executive Chairman after fifteen years running the company. The event itself was packed with hardware: two new iPhones, Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone, two new Apple Watch models, and new AirPods.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max

The Pro models get a new 2nm A20 Pro chip, a variable aperture camera, and for the first time Apple’s own modem (the C2). The Dynamic Island has shrunk, and a 2TB storage option is available for the first time. Prices start at $1,199 for the Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max, a hundred dollars more than last year.

iPhone Duo: the first foldable iPhone

After years of rumors, it’s finally here: Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. A 5.4-inch cover screen on the outside and a 7.6-inch inner screen that feels like a mini iPad. Prices start at $1,999.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4

Both watches get an entirely new health sensing system that measures heart rate every five seconds and calculates a daily Readiness Score based on activity, recovery, and sleep. The Series 12 starts at $399, the Ultra 4 at $799.

AirPods 5

The entry-level AirPods have been refreshed too, with active noise cancellation despite the open-ear design, and Live Translation powered by Apple Intelligence. They cost $129, or $149 with the wireless charging case.
