All the Rumors About the Foldable iPhone, Rounded Up

For years there has been speculation about a foldable iPhone. This year it seems serious: from dozens of separate rumors, leaks, and analyst reports, an increasingly complete picture is emerging of what Apple is expected to announce later this year. Important to stress up front: none of this has been confirmed by Apple. It remains speculation, based on supply chain sources, analysts, and leaked dummy models. We have rounded up all the separate reports for you.

When will the iPhone Fold arrive

Most sources expect Apple to unveil its first foldable iPhone during the usual September event, possibly in the week of September 7 or 14, 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. One Barclays analyst does add a caveat: actual sales might not start until December 2026, giving Apple more time for large-scale production. So for anyone hoping to have one in time for the holidays, that is not a given.

Book shaped, not a flip phone

Unlike what the name “iPhone Flip” sometimes suggests, most rumors point to a design that opens like a book, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, rather than a device that folds shut vertically like the Galaxy Z Flip or the modern Motorola Razr. Expect a small outer display of roughly 5.5 inches, and a large inner display of 7.8 inches (some sources mention 8 inches) without a visible crease, or at least with a significantly reduced crease compared to competing foldable phones.

Expected specifications

Based on current rumors, the first foldable iPhone would include, among other things:

• An A20 series chip.
• Apple’s own “C2” modem.
• Touch ID instead of Face ID, since there simply appears to be no room for the Face ID sensors within the folding display.
• A dual 48 megapixel camera on the back.
• A hidden under-display selfie camera instead of a notch or Dynamic Island.

Recent dummy models shared by leaker Sonny Dickson in early June reportedly show a design that is nearly final. Notably, those dummies were only shown in white, and according to other sources Apple is still undecided on whether a black color option will be offered at all.

Price: the most expensive iPhone ever

All rumors point to a hefty price tag. In the United States a starting price of at least 2,400 dollars is mentioned; in Europe the price could approach 2,800 euros. That would make the foldable iPhone instantly the most expensive iPhone ever, well above the current Pro Max models.

And then there’s also the iPhone Flip

Alongside the book style model, separate rumors have long circulated about a true flip phone: a square, clamshell device closer in size to the Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Apple is exploring such a “square, clamshell-style” design, and an Asian leaker known as “Fixed Focus Digital” claims Apple has already tested working prototypes of a flip device. Other sources previously reported that Apple had rejected a clamshell design because it would not deliver compelling new use cases. In short, the rumors contradict each other here. What is widely assumed, however, is that any iPhone Flip would only arrive after the first book-style iPhone Fold, so not this year.

iOS 27 hints at the preparations

An interesting technical clue: researchers found new references and frameworks in the iOS 27 beta software that fit a foldable device, with a notable emphasis on resizable app layouts. During the Platforms State of the Union at WWDC 2026, Apple explicitly called on developers to stop designing apps for a single fixed screen size and orientation, and instead build for flexible layouts. That is exactly the kind of preparation you would expect if a new, foldable screen format is on the way.

What this means for you

With an expected price of around 2,800 euros, the first foldable iPhone will not be a mainstream business device for the time being, and it remains completely unclear how MDM support, accessories, and warranty terms will look at launch. Our advice: keep an eye on developments, but do not yet plan a business rollout around a device that has not even been officially announced.

At Analyst ICT we now find the pattern of rumors convincing enough to conclude that something is genuinely coming this year. The number of independent sources, dummy models, and technical clues in iOS 27 is substantial. But as long as Apple itself confirms nothing, every detail, from release date to price to color, remains speculation.
