New iMac with M6: from 1,819 euros, in seven colours

On 27 October Apple announced a new 24-inch iMac with the M6 chip. The design stays the same, but there is news under the hood and in the colour range. Pre-orders open on 28 October (18:10 CET), and deliveries start on 6 November.

M6 with up to 12 cores

The iMac comes with an M6 with 10 or 12 CPU cores and 10 or 12 GPU cores. On the higher-end version that is two cores more than the previous generation. Each GPU core has a Neural Accelerator, the Neural Engine has two times 16 cores and memory bandwidth goes up to 170 GB/s.

Apple cites a few comparisons with the M4 iMac: up to 1.5 times faster in Microsoft Excel and up to 2 times faster in Affinity. Compared with the most popular Intel iMac, the new iMac is up to 18 times faster. These are Apple’s own figures, from its own testing.

Display, colours and ports

The display remains a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display (23.5 inches viewable) with 500 nits and P3 colour. On the 12-core version a nano-texture display is optional to cut reflections.

The iMac comes in seven colours: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver. You get up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports and can connect two 6K displays. Wireless is Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The camera is a 12 megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View. The top model has 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet as standard and Touch ID on the keyboard.

Dutch pricing

The entry configuration (10 CPU cores, 10 GPU cores, 16 GB memory, 256 GB storage, two Thunderbolt 4 ports) costs 1,819 euros. The top configuration (12 CPU cores, 12 GPU cores, 16 GB memory, 256 GB storage, four Thunderbolt 4 ports) costs 2,019 euros.

Upgrades are stepwise: 24 GB of memory is 220 euros extra, 512 GB of storage 220 euros and 1 TB of storage 550 euros. The nano-texture display costs 220 euros extra.

For business users

For office workstations the iMac remains a tidy all-in-one, and the top model has Ethernet and Touch ID as standard. The iMac runs macOS 27. Siri AI arrives in beta with macOS 27.2, but initially not in Dutch: Apple lists English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
