iPad mini gets OLED, A20 Pro and IP67: Dutch pricing and availability
On 26 October Apple announced a new iPad mini, which it calls the biggest update ever for this model. The smallest iPad gets an OLED display, the A20 Pro chip from the iPhone 18 Pro and, for the first time, an IP67 rating. Pre-orders open on 28 October (18:10 CET), and deliveries start on 6 November.
OLED display in a compact size
The display is 8.5 inches and a Super Retina XDR OLED panel. Peak brightness reaches 1,200 nits, more than double the previous generation, and the contrast ratio is 2,000,000:1. The bezels are 24 percent thinner while the footprint stays the same. A nano-texture glass option reduces reflections, familiar from the iPad Pro.
A20 Pro, IP67 and new speakers
Inside is the A20 Pro, built on 2 nanometres. Apple promises up to 60 percent faster multithreaded performance, up to 4.5 times faster AI performance and up to 2.7 times faster graphics than the previous generation. The iPad mini is 5.4 mm thick and, according to Apple, lighter than its predecessor.
New is the IP67 rating: the iPad mini was lab-tested in water up to 1 metre deep for 30 minutes. Apple warns that this protection is not permanent and can decrease with wear. The sealed enclosure contributes to that. The woofers are paired with the display, which Apple calls “Acoustic Display”, and the tweeters are hidden between the glass and the aluminium.
The 12 megapixel Center Stage camera now sits on the landscape edge, which suits video calls. On the back is a 12 megapixel camera. The N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Cellular models get the C2 modem and support eSIM. Both the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and the Apple Pencil Pro work with it.
Dutch pricing
The iPad mini comes in Midnight and Starlight, with 128, 256 or 512 GB of storage.
Wi-Fi: 128 GB for 759 euros, 256 GB for 889 euros, 512 GB for 1,139 euros. Wi-Fi + Cellular: 929 euros, 1,059 euros and 1,309 euros. Models with nano-texture glass (256 and 512 GB only) cost 130 euros extra.
For business users
With IP67, a bright OLED display and Pencil support, the iPad mini is interesting for people who work on the move, such as in healthcare, logistics and field service. Do mind the software: Siri AI arrives in beta with iPadOS 27.2 and, according to Apple, is not available in the EU for now.
